GWM Tank 300 is coming to Malaysia – larger than any local mid-sized SUV!

Great Wall Motors (GWM) Malaysia has announced that the GWM Tank 300 will be coming to Malaysia on its Facebook page. In the post, the company also announced that 300,000 units of the model have rolled off its production line.

The Tank is a brand owned by GWM, just like Ora, with models such as the Tank 300, Tank 400, and Tank 500. The smallest of them all; it measures 4,760 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,903 mm in height with a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

That makes the Tank 300 longer than a Honda CR-V, wider than a Mazda CX-5, and taller than a Ford Ranger Raptor. Its wheelbase is longer than that of the Mazda CX-8.

According to its Chinese official site, the Tank 300 is available with two powertrain options. There’s a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, producing 220 hp and 380 Nm of torque.

There is also a 2.0-litre turbocharged variant with a 48V mild-hybrid system, with 245 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The latter uses a 9-speed automatic. For your amusement, the 48V mild-hybrid model is called the ‘Time Traveller’. The Tank 300 sits on double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link system at the rear, while wheel sizes are up to 18-inches.

Aside from the long list of off-road and driver assistance features, the Tank 300 also comes with two 12.3-inch displays, wireless charging, heated and ventilated seats, eight speakers, soundproof glass, and gear shift paddles, to name a few. These, however, are Chinese-market specifications, so we’ll just have to wait for ours when it arrives.

As for price, the lowest variant of the Tank 300 dubbed the ‘Challenger’ costs 199,800 yuan (approx. RM133,707), the ‘Conqueror’ 216,800 yuan (approx. RM145,083), and the ‘Time Traveller’ 226,800 yuan (approx RM151,775). So, would you let go of your Japanese SUV for this Chinese Tank?
