Ora 07 confirmed for launch in Malaysia in Q1 2024 – two variants, up to 408 hp and 680 Nm

After teasing it on social media last week, GWM Malaysia has now confirmed that the Ora 07 will be officially launched in the country in the first quarter of 2024, and will be made available in two variants – namely Long Range and Performance guises – similar to the model’s availability in Thailand.

Both variants in Malaysia will be powered by an 83.5 kWh battery pack. On the Long Range model, the single-motor front-wheel-drive setup translates to an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 340 Nm of torque, and 640 km of range (NEDC). The Ora 07 Performance meanwhile tacks on an identical motor on the rear axle for double the outputs (300 kW/408 hp, 680 Nm), and a reduced range of 550 km (NEDC).

GWM (annoyingly) does not provide detailed charging information, but says that the Ora 07 can be charged from 30-80% in approximately 30 minutes via DC fast charging – based on some rudimentary maths, we’re guessing it’s around the 80-100 kW mark.

The company did not share detailed specifications for the Ora 07 due for launch here in Malaysia, but we presume it will not be too different to that of the cars in Thailand, as the “streamline electric coupe” will also be fully imported from China for the time being.

Equipment highlights on the Ora 07 here in Malaysia should include LED headlights and daytime-running lights, a panoramic glass roof, and 18- or 19-inch uniquely styled alloy wheels to match the Panamera-esque exterior silhouette. The Performance variant will also get an electrically-retractable spoiler for added aerodynamic performance.

Inside, the Ora 07’s supercar-inspired dashboard design is complemented by the unique ‘triple-gauge’ 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, tan leather upholstery, ambient lighting, as well as a full suite of advanced driver assistance features, including the marque’s curiously-named “wisdom dodge system”.

Pricing information will have to wait until launch, but for context, the Ora 07 in Thailand retails for between THB1.299-1.499 million (approx. RM172k-199k), slightly undercutting both the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal – its two biggest rivals.

“We are thrilled to bring the Ora 07 to Malaysia, reinforcing our commitment to providing our customers with top-notch, eco-friendly transportation options,” said GWM Malaysia managing director, Cui Anqi. “The Malaysian market holds tremendous potential, and we believe Ora 07 will attract customers seeking uniqueness.”
