Porsche Taycan facelift debuts – up to 952hp, 587km range, 320kW DC charging

The Porsche Taycan facelift has just made its global debut. Despite featuring only minor cosmetic changes, the new Taycan has gained significantly in the performance side of things.

On the outside, the Porsche Taycan facelift sports revised LED HD matrix headlights which sport the four-point graphics and now look flatter than before. There are also new front fenders, along with new LED rearlights.

The new Porsche Taycan now wears a Porsche script at the back. It can be optionally opted to illuminate and will feature welcome and leaving animations.

Porsche has given the Taycan facelift new batteries across the range. The base model Taycan now sports an 83.6 kWh battery, while the Taycan 4S and Turbo S get larger 97 kWh units.

The new batteries are said to feature a new chemistry with a higher nickel content, despite having similar dimensions with the outgoing model. Although sporting larger batteries, Porsche has applied some of their engineering magic to the Taycan facelift, which helped reduce its overall weight.

Powering the base Porsche Taycan facelift is a rear-mounted single-electric motor that makes 402 hp (metric), 82 hp more than before. The more powerful all-wheel drive models sport two motors, which put out 762 hp. The system output can be further increased by 190 hp (metric) to a peak output of 952 hp (metric) via the so-called “overboost” function for 10 seconds.

Thanks to the extra power, the base rear-wheel-drive Taycan can now sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, while the Taycan Turbo S can do the same in a whopping 2.4 seconds. This makes them 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors respectively.

As for range, the base Porsche Taycan is said to be able to travel as far as 587 km, 143 km more than the outgoing model. The Porsche Taycan 4S can go as far as 552 km, while the Taycan Turbo maxes out at 555 km.

The electric range of the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo on the other hand is rated by Porsche at 512 km. It is to be noted that the range figures of the Taycan facelift claimed by Porsche aren’t officially rated according to international standards such as WLTP. The test was said to be carried out under “everyday” conditions, according to Porsche.

Charging the Taycan facelift has been made faster too, as its maximum DC charging rate has been raised to 320 kW, 50 kW more than before. Porsche says that the fast-charging window of the Taycan’s new battery has been expanded, allowing charging capacities of more than 300 kW to sustain for up to five minutes.

Adaptive air suspension has now been fitted onto the Taycan as standard. All-wheel drive models can also be fitted with the new Porsche Active Ride suspension as an option.

Inside, the Porsche Taycan is equipped with standard kits such as ambient lighting, heated front seats, a smartphone tray for wireless charging, and electric charging ports on the driver and front passenger sides. A driver mode switch, the brand’s Power Steering Plus, and aluminium door sill protectors are included from the factory too.

The facelifted Taycan now gets the next-generation Apple CarPlay+ integrated into its displays too. This feature will enable convenience such as the car’s climate function to be controlled from within the system. There is also a new In-Car Video function that enables video streaming legally on the central display and the passenger display.

Three body styles will continue to be offered with the Porsche Taycan, which includes the sedan, Cross Turismo, and Sport Turismo. Delivery in European markets will begin in Q2 2024.
