Chinese New Year 2024: Free tolls on February 8-9, Smart Lane activated

In conjunction with the upcoming festivities, the Works Ministry has announced a highway toll fare exemption for Class 1 vehicles (private vehicles) from February 8-9, 2024, ahead of Chinese New Year 2024 that falls on February 10 this year.

The toll fare exemption will be applicable from 12:01 am on February 8, until 11:59 pm on February 9, at all toll plazas in the country except the two tolls bordering Johor and Singapore, namely Tol Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) along the North South Highway, and Plaza Tol Tanjung Kupang on LINKEDUA.

The move is expected to cost the government an estimated RM42.99 million, the ministry said.

In anticipation of the increased traffic during the festive period, which is estimated to rise up to 2.4 million cars per day, the Malaysian Highway Authority has restricted all highway concessionaires from any lane closures, unless in emergency cases, from February 5-14, 2024.

In addition, the Smart Lane and Tidal Flow lanes will also be activated during the period wherever applicable, and increase the capacity at rest stops and high-traffic toll plazas along the highways.

Road users are advised to plan their travels according to the travel time advisories (TTAs) from the respective highway concessionaires, and ensure sufficient balance in their Touch ‘n Go cards, e-wallets, or credit and debit cards for a smoother journey.
