UMW Toyota sales up by 35% in first half of 2022, Veloz to launch soon

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has just reported its sales data for the month of June 2022, which saw the company deliver a total of 8,939 vehicles consisting of 8,870 units of Toyota and 69 units of Lexus.

The figure represents a fairly substantial increase over May’s sales results (7,579 units: 7,442 Toyota, 137 Lexus), and with it, the company has sold a total of 45,911 vehicles (Toyota and Lexus combined) in the first half of the year, translating to a 35% increase compared to the same period last year (34,111 units).

Although the recent expiry of the SST exemption will result in short-term negative impact on its sales, UMWT says that it will be largely mitigated in the second half of this year thanks to “some early signs of recovery on the global shortage of semiconductors and microchips”.

This will be further bolstered by the launch of newer models, which will “leave buyers spoilt for choices”, the company added.

“Shifting gears into the second half of 2022, UMW Toyota Motors is focused on going the Extra Mile to provide Toyota owners with the best ownership and after-sales experience by reimagining what ownership is about,” said UMWT President, Ravindran K. “Looking ahead, shifting consumer behaviours will likely place value on advanced automotive technologies and comprehensive security features supported by a host of value-added after-sales services.”

The company’s stream of new launches will kick off with the Toyota Veloz, which is now already available for booking at all Toyota showrooms. Replacing the aging Avanza, the upcoming Toyota Veloz (which is also the sister car to the all-new Perodua Alza) will feature some much-needed creature comfort additions suitable for the modern day, including Toyota Safety Sense advanced driver assistance features, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Qi wireless charging pad.
