Remember the GR Corolla test mule from 2025? That was a genuine preview of the new GRMN Corolla. Toyota has just unveiled the spiciest version of its hot hatch yet, and true to the company’s kaizen philosophy, it is packed with incremental upgrades. Crowned with the exclusive GRMN badge, Toyota thoroughly developed this machine to tackle the notorious Nürburgring circuit as fast as humanly possible.
To reinforce the body structure, the GRMN Corolla carries over the extended application of structural adhesive by 13.9 metres to a total of 32.7 metres, featured in the facelifted GR Corolla. It also added a cool-air duct to reduce intake temperatures when the driver is giving it the full beans around the Green Hell. Externally, the car gets a menacing look via a unique matte black or khaki paint finish, alongside track-honed carbon-fibre bonnet and front fender panels.
To keep the car under control, the GRMN Corolla features exclusive aero parts developed directly from lessons learned in the Super Taikyu Series. These include a hood duct, fender ducts, front side spoilers, and a carbon-fibre rear wing with a five-step adjustment mechanism operating in one-degree increments.
Coping with a bumpy Nürburgring track meant upgrading the suspension to front and rear monotube shock absorbers with rebound springs for improved inner-wheel traction. Their stroke is adjusted down to a millimetre for optimal balance, working in tandem with completely reworked bump-stop characteristics designed to survive severe vertical track drops.

These pair with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, widened by 10 mm over the standard model to ensure you stay on the tarmac. Furthermore, the electric power steering is modified to generate the required assistance torque even during cornering under high g-forces. This works alongside a bespoke tuned 4WD control system optimised for straight-line stability and immediate high-speed turn-in.
Under the bonnet, the feisty 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine has also received the kaizen treatment, now pushing out 304 hp and 415 Nm. That is 15 Nm more than the standard model, gained from insights learned while competing in the Super Taikyu Series with a hydrogen-powered GR Corolla. True to its purist intentions, this power is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, ensuring drivers get a serious arm and leg workout throughout the 20.83 km circuit.
For technical geeks, these improvements involved analysing circuit data to increase torque specifically in the 3,600-4,800 rpm mid-speed range, which is vital for accelerating out of corners. To keep the turbocharger cooled for the whole lap, the GRMN Corolla features an intercooler spray system.
Oh, and the GRMN Corolla is only equipped with two seats for the sake of weight reduction, shaving off 30 kg compared to the standard model. Other interior changes include a specially designed cockpit with a full bucket driver’s seat based on the driving position of the Super Taikyu Series race cars, designed to hug you when you pull high g-forces while tackling corners.
This seat facilitates clutch operation, and its glass fibre-reinforced polymer construction helps reduce weight. According to Toyota, it was developed for everyday usage with ease of entry and exit in mind, incorporating feedback from various professional drivers, including evaluations conducted while wearing a helmet.


Other exclusive goodies include a driver-focused cockpit layout featuring an exclusive flocked instrument panel and flocked front pillars designed to reduce glare.
There are also lots of carbon-fibre trimmings that adorn the passenger side of the instrument panel, developed by the specialist Carbon Section at the Motomachi plant. Other special items include instrument panel padding bearing Morizo’s signature, door trim, and a shift knob accented in Alumite Red, alongside a GRMN-exclusive serial number plate.
Want to buy one? The GRMN Corolla is available in limited quantities in Japan, North America, and Australia. Sales negotiation requests must be made via the “GR app” smartphone application from around autumn 2026 in Japan, so tough luck for Malaysian buyers.
Instead, we can maybe look forward to the upcoming GR Corolla MORIZO RR. Currently under development, this version is equipped with the eight-speed GR Direct Automatic Transmission and is far more family-friendly with five seats.
