Just two weeks after the launch of the Toyota Yaris Cross, UMW Toyota Motor has announced that it has recorded 2,298 bookings for the B-SUV nationwide.
Toyota cites the strong appeal of the Toyota Yaris Cross as being largely down to its pricing, particularly with the availability of a hybrid variant. Prices start from RM99,990 for the 1.5S, which shares a similar powertrain with the Perodua Traz, featuring a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 106 hp and 138 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT gearbox driving the front wheels.
Step up to the 1.5S HEV hybrid variant, and the price rises by RM10,000 to RM109,990. Here, the crossover features a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a small 0.7-kWh battery, producing a combined output of 111 hp. Power is once again sent to the front wheels, this time via an eCVT gearbox.
Apart from the new hybrid variant, the Toyota Yaris Cross is also more generously equipped to set it apart from its twin sibling, the Perodua Traz. Notable standard kit include a hands-free powered tailgate, roof rails, auto-retractable side mirrors with integrated turn signals and welcome light, and larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, it’s a similar story with the Toyota Yaris Cross, which adds features such as a larger 10-inch infotainment display paired with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster. The cabin also comes standard with black leather upholstery, along with a leather-wrapped gear shifter and steering wheel. The latter now features additional buttons on the right spoke, which were previously blanked off in the Perodua Traz.
Those buttons are to do with the Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of ADAS systems, more specifically, adaptive cruise control (ACC). As part of this suite the Toyota Yaris Cross also comes equipped with features such as lane keeping control (LKC), auto high beam (AHB), and brake assist (BA).
The Toyota Yaris Cross is locally assembled (CKD) at Toyota’s manufacturing facility in Bukit Raja, alongside the Vios and Corolla Cross. Meanwhile, the Perodua Traz is assembled at the brand’s manufacturing plant in Rawang.
