Video: MPV Drag Race: Denza D9 vs GWM WEY G9 vs Toyota Alphard

With MPVs being the default choice for Malaysian bosses, ever wondered which one is the fastest despite all their luxury amenities? Well, we might just have the answer for you in our latest drag race video, in which we pit the GWM Wey G9, the Denza D9, and the Toyota Alphard against one another (in a very specific use case).

On paper, the GWM Wey G9 is the most powerful among the trio, with its Hi4 all-wheel drive hybrid system producing a combined 442 hp and 642 Nm, which is good for 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h.

Then we have the Denza D9, which in its dual-motor guise, produces 374 hp and 470 Nm, enabling 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Lastly, the venerable Toyota Alphard features a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine putting 278 hp and 430 Nm to the front wheels, enabling 0-100 km/h in 8.0 seconds.

We won’t spoil the video, so you have to watch the full video to find out who won. On paper, despite being the most powerful MPV of the trio, the Wey G9 is the heaviest, coming in at 2.8 tonnes. Meanwhile, the Denza D9, being an EV, has the advantage of instant torque, plus it is lighter. The Toyota Alphard is the lightest of the bunch, so its weight advantage might come in handy.

But we’re not just drag racing these MPVs together, as we also put a little wildcard at the end of the video, so you have to watch it to find out.
