UMW Toyota Motor has just announced the arrival of the new 2019 Toyota Avanza with three variants available. There’s the range-topping 1.5S+ that replaces the 1.5G, priced at RM87,888, 1.5S at RM83,888 and 1.5E at RM80,888.
Colour options are Dark Red Mica Metallic, Silver Mica Metallic, White and Black Metallic.
As you can tell from the pictures, visually, the front end almost resembles that of a Vellfire, with two-tier Bi-LED headlamps, while its sleek profile is complemented with chrome trims below the front doors, a sharkfin antenna and power folding side mirrors which are only available in the 1.5S and 1.5S+ models .
Emphasis on refinement and aerodynamics are apparent in the new Avanza. Wind noise has apparently be reduced by reshaped side mirror covers, while a spoiler with LED stop lamps offer smoother air flow over the roof, reducing drag in the process.
While it may still be utilising the 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine with 105 hp and 136 Nm, certain measures have been taken to improve Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH).
The dashboard for instance, has been lined with sound insulating material to reduce penetration of engine noise. High damping urethane material has also been used for the tunnel silencer and rear deck silencer to reduce intrusion of gear noise from transmission & the vehicle differential.
Working with the original equipment tyre supplier, Toyota engineers were able to reduce road noise generated from tyres by about 1.5 dB through changes in tyre construction and rubber characteristics.
Speed sensitive wipers are now available at the front, while at the back the rear wipers can operate automatically when the reverse gear is selected – if the front wipers are in operation.
The new-look is also enhanced with new 15-inch light alloy wheel designs with full-sized spare wheels.
Changes to the new Avanza are beyond skin deep. Inside, you now get a two-tone dashboard, dark fabric seats with red accents, a multi-function steering wheel, a Digital Air-Conditioning System with Clean Air Filter, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity on the 6.75-inch capacitive touch screen.
Smaller details such as the meter cluster has also been given some attention, with the 1.5S and 1.5S+ getting Red accents while the 1.5E models are finished in Blue.
As for safety, the 1.5S+ gets the cream of the crop which includes a Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, reverse camera (standard in 1.5S+) and dual SRS airbags.
