UMW Toyota sold 7,579 cars in May 2022, teases new car launches later this year

UMW Toyota Motor has just published its sales data for May, which saw the company sold a total of 7,579 units consisting of 7,442 cars from Toyota, and 137 from Lexus. The latest figure represents an increase of roughly 9% compared to the previous month (6,946 units: 6,848 Toyota, 78 Lexus).

As of May 2022, the company has registered a cumulative total of 36,972 vehicles (inclusive of both Toyota and Lexus) year-to-date, compared to 34,026 in the same period last year, which translates to an 8.6% jump.

The company says that the positive sales performance is despite the forecast that vehicle sales in Malaysia will be slow for the rest of the year, stemming from production slowdowns caused by the knock-on effects from the silicon shortage.

Additionally, the end of the sales and service tax (SST) exemption after June 2022 will also put a damper on sales, although the company says that customers who are looking to take advantage of the current pricing have helped ramp up its sales somewhat.

“As we rev up for the second half of this year, we at UMW Toyota are truly appreciative and emboldened by the support we have received from our customers. It has always been our policy to put our customers first, and we are always ready to extend our assistance to the many Toyota fans as we journey out of these uncertain times,” said UMW Toyota President, Ravindran K.

“We are looking forward to continued confidence in our products and servicing capabilities, backed by our advanced automotive technology and comforted by the security features of all our products. Here’s to a more positive outlook forging ahead,” he added.

Continuing with its monthly promotions, UMW Toyota is currently offering benefits worth RM4,000 to customers looking for the Yaris and Vios, alongside special mid-year savings and other cash rebates for the month of June. The company is also teasing about its “upcoming product launches” in the press release, which it expects to help further increase its sales.
