Compared to its cousin, the Perodua Traz, the Yaris Cross is RM18,800 more expensive than the range-topping Traz H variant, priced at RM81,800.

Its dimensions are identical to the Traz’s, at 4,310 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,615 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. According to UMW Toyota, the Yaris Cross has a ground clearance of 210 mm, enabling it to wade through flooded roads up to 600 mm deep.

Apart from that, the rest of the exterior looks similar to the Perodua Traz’s, with the Yaris Cross featuring a design reminiscent of a scaled-down Toyota RAV4, particularly on the front fascia and rear, where the taillights resemble those of the Lexus NX.

Standard exterior equipment on the Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5S includes:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • LED headlights with manual leveling
  • LED daytime running lights (DRLs)
  • LED tailights
  • LED fog lights
  • Auto retractable side mirrors with integrated turn signals and welcome light
  • Shark fin antenna
  • Roof rail
  • Door visors
  • Hands-free tailgate with kick sensor

Inside, the setup is similar to the Perodua Traz, but the Yaris Cross omits the red dashboard trim found in the Perodua, opting instead for black trim with blue accent stitching. The Yaris Cross also features a larger center infotainment display, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, compared to the Traz’s nine-inch unit.

Bootspace in the Toyota Yaris Cross is 471 liters with the rear seats up. The hybrid variant has a slightly smaller boot, at 465 liters, but both variants get a 200mm deep underfloor compartment for extra storage.

Standard interior features of the Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5S includes:

  • Smart entry and start system
  • Drive mode switch (Power, Eco, and Normal)
  • Seven-inch digital gauge cluster
  • Automatic climate control with rear aircon vents
  • Three-spoke leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel

Powering the pure petrol-powered Toyota Yaris Cross is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, making 106 hp and 138 Nm. This is paired to a D-CVT gearbox that drives the front wheels.

On the other hand, the Yaris Cross HEV features the marque’s fourth-generation series-parallel hybrid system, pairing a 91 hp/121 Nm 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine with an 80 hp/141 Nm traction motor.

The combined system output is rated at 111 hp, with drive sent exclusively to the front wheels via an eCVT. This powertrain is capable of regenerative braking to capture energy during deceleration, helping it achieve a claimed fuel consumption between 27.8 km/l to 33.3 km/l, according to the company.
