The Jaecoo J8 has made its UK debut, launching as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powered by Chery’s Super Hybrid System (SHS). Officially called the Jaecoo J8 SHS-P, with the “P” representing its PHEV powertrain, the new SUV shares many parts with the Omoda C9 SHS, albeit with a few key differences.
Under the bonnet sits a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a three-speed DHT automatic transmission. With power sent to all four wheels (AWD), the Jaecoo J8 SHS-P produces a combined system output of 428 hp and 580 Nm, enabling a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 5.8 seconds.
Jaecoo UK has yet to disclose the battery capacity but claims the SUV can travel up to 83 miles (134 km) on electric power alone, while total combined range is rated at 700 miles (1,127 km). The car also supports 40 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30-80% in around 20 minutes. Additionally, it offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability with up to 6.6 kW of output.
While it’s fitted with a very similar setup to the Omoda C9 SHS, the Jaecoo J8 SHS-P interestingly quotes rather different figures from its cousin.
Previewed in Malaysia last year, the Omoda C9 SHS produces 605 hp (445 kW) and 915 Nm, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.9 seconds. Fitted with a 34.46 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, Omoda claims an EV-only range of 150 km and a total driving range of 1,100 km. The SUV supports up to 70 kW DC charging and 6.6 kW AC charging.

Apart from the powertrain differences compared to the model in Malaysia, the rest of the Jaecoo J8 SHS-P looks rather familiar. The SUV adopts a larger, more upmarket design, led by a massive waterfall grille up front. It rides on 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and features a strong beltline that is characteristic of the brand’s design language. Around the back, a full-width rear lightbar is paired with textured LED taillights.
Inside, the J8 comes standard with dual 12.3-inch displays — one for the digital instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment system. Other highlights include a panoramic glass roof, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, and Nappa leather upholstery. In the six-seat configuration, the first and second rows also benefit from heated and ventilated seats.

Speaking of which, the Jaecoo J8 SHS-P also debuts with a new seating configuration. For the first time, the SUV will be offered as a seven-seater alongside its existing six-seat layout. Jaecoo says it is designed for “larger families who require flexibility and space”
Prices for the Jaecoo J8 SHS-P in the UK start from GBP 45,500 (approx. RM 239k) to GBP 47,500 (approx. RM 250k) OTR. With a right-hand drive version now available in the UK and Jaecoo Malaysia’s recent push for its hybrid models, could the J8 SHS-P be coming to Malaysia next?
