All-new MG ZS open for booking in Malaysia, Hybrid+ and Turbo variants

SAIC Motor Malaysia announced the local specifications for the new locally-assembled (CKD) MG ZS at KLIMS 2026, which is now open for booking in Malaysia in two variants, the Lux Hybrid+ and the Lux Turbo. Customers who place an early booking during the promotional period with a booking fee of RM99 will be entitled to a RM3,000 rebate and three years of complimentary maintenance.

While final specifications will be unveiled at its official launch, the company claims it will be the largest B-segment SUV in its class. Measuring 4,430 mm in length, 1,502 mm in height, and 1,818 mm in width, the vehicle is comparable in size to the Proton X50 and the Honda HR-V.

The new MG ZS shares design elements with its larger sibling, the MG HS, featuring a bold front fascia with “Connected Hunter Eyes” headlights and black grille accents. Other touted exterior equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, rear LED taillights, and a rear spoiler for the Hybrid variant, though the turbo variant is scheduled for a later introduction.

Inside, the cabin layout provides a boot space of 443 litres, which is expandable to 1,457 litres with the rear seats folded down. Other interior amenities include a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display and a digital instrument cluster.

While the Turbo powertrain is scheduled for a later market introduction, referencing the MG ZS Turbo sold in Australia, it features a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 170 hp and 275 Nm, paired with a CVT gearbox driving the front wheels.

On the other hand, the local hybrid powertrain features a 1.83 kWh high-capacity NCM battery paired with a traction motor and a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine. This setup delivers a combined maximum power output of 196 hp and 465 Nm. Sent to the front wheels via a 3-speed hybrid transmission, it enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.7 seconds and offers a driving range of up to 870 km with 41 litres of petrol.

For safety features, the MG ZS is equipped with a suite of ADAS features, which include adaptive cruise control with intelligent speed limit assist, blind spot monitors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, lane departure warning, and emergency lane keep assist systems.

The MG ZS will be available in four exterior colours—red, silver, black, and white—paired with an all-black interior. SAIC Motor Malaysia did not provide any indicative pricing information for the MG ZS in Malaysia, but we expect it to range between RM120k to RM140k, rivalling the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HR-V, and Proton X50. Final pricing and full specifications will be revealed during the official local market launch, which should be happen in the coming months.
