Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has teased the fully-electric Jaecoo J5 in Malaysia via a social media post that suggests a launch is happening in the near future.
Marking the brand’s first EV model, the Jaecoo J5 EV swaps the 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine for a front-mounted traction motor that produces 207 hp and 288 Nm, enabling 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. This powertrain is paired with a 61.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which enables a range of 399 km (WLTP).
Based on the Jaecoo J5 EV sold in Indonesia and Australia, the model supports DC charging at 130 kW, which enables a 30-80% recharge in 28 minutes.
Externally, the Jaecoo J5 EV retains the silhouette of its petrol-powered counterpart with identical dimensions, though its front fascia removes the petrol model’s grille in favour of a unique perforated design and a subtle “BEV” emblem.

Like the exterior, the interior retains the same look as the standard model, sharing a central 13.2-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display, an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, and a four-spoke multi-function steering wheel that creates the illusion of a two-spoke wheel.
To further differentiate the Jaecoo J5 EV, it gets blue piping on the seats as opposed to white in the petrol-powered variant, alongside a front trunk (frunk) in the absence of an engine.
It is highly likely that the J5 EV will also carry over the petrol model’s faux-leather upholstery, which utilises anti-bacterial and scratch-resistant materials that make it entirely pet-friendly and globally TÜV-certified.
No pricing information was disclosed, but we guess that the Jaecoo J5 EV could be priced somewhere in the ballpark of the RM108,000 commanded by its petrol-powered variant.
