At the launch of the new 2026 XPeng X9 yesterday, XPeng Malaysia senior country manager Chen Yinbin revealed that the facelifted seven-seater EV MPV is on-track to become the brand’s second CKD locally assembled model in Malaysia.
The X9 will be locally assembled at EP Manufacturing Berhad’s (EPMB) plant in Melaka alongside the XPeng G6 SUV, which only just began rolling off the production line earlier this month. According to the partnership announcement in December last year, these will also be joined by the PowerX range-extender electric vehicle (REEV) variant of the X9 sometime in the future.
Chen did not provide a timeframe on when the XPeng X9 will be locally assembled here in Malaysia, although we expect it to happen sometime this year.
Aside from its CKD plans, Chen also revealed the brand’s plans for Malaysia for the next two years. Among which, XPeng will be establishing a dedicated local research and development department in Malaysia to help develop and localise their models specifically for our market, including ADAS and autonomous driving calibration.
Additionally, the company will also be establishing more strategic partnerships, particularly in advanced high-tech fields, as well as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and silicon giant ARM specifically for the purpose of establishing an automotive semiconductor and chip centre in the country.

On the more customer-facing aspects, XPeng Malaysia will be establishing 80 charging stations across the country by 2028, featuring over 1,800 integrated DC charging points. The network expansion will be done in collaboration with JomCharge and other charge point operators, and XPeng is also aiming to introduce its megawatt (1,000 kW) hypercharging technology in the country.
The company is also aiming to expand its dealership network to over 18 3S centres in key regions across the country by the end of the year, rising up to 30 locations by 2028 with 100% coverage across all states. By then, the brand will also set up three battery repair centres, while it aims to improve its spare parts supply efficiency up from 95% currently to 99%, promising parts delivery within 24 hours.
Last but not least, XPeng is also introducing a new ASEAN borderless warranty, so customers from Malaysia can still have warranty coverage as well as in-vehicle data access even if they are in Thailand, Singapore, or Indonesia.
