All good things eventually come to an end, and the A90 Toyota GR Supra is no exception. Toyota has officially confirmed that production of the beloved sports car will cease in March 2026. The announcement, published on Toyota’s Japanese website last week, was brief yet bittersweet — a fitting farewell to a fan favourite.
The Japanese carmaker wrote, “Production of the Supra will end in March 2026. We would like to thank our many customers for their patronage. We sincerely apologise to customers who were considering purchasing a Supra for this announcement. Please contact your local dealer for information on alternative models.”
Upon its debut in 2020, the A90 Toyota GR Supra was controversial for its looks and its powertrain. To satisfy Supra purists who insisted on an inline-six, Toyota partnered with BMW to source the brand’s famed 3.0-litre B58 turbocharged inline-six engine. Alongside it, the A90 Supra was also the first Supra to be offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder variant, though it remained the less popular choice between the two.
The A90 Toyota GR Supra also shared similar underpinnings with the BMW Z4, which threw purists off. Despite the early controversy, the Supra proved significantly more successful in the marketplace. Over the five years following its debut, Toyota delivered 24,000 units of the Supra, nearly doubling the sales of the BMW Z4 with 13,000 units in the same period.
Just as the A90 Toyota Supra era concludes, a new chapter appears to be dawning — though it’s not looking good for Supra diehards. According to Japan’s Best Car Magazine, as reported by Forbes, a sixth-generation Toyota Supra is coming in 2027, but the car will only be available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrain.
According to the report, the next-generation Supra will deliver roughly 400 hp and ride on a new Toyota-developed rear-wheel drive (RWD) platform. While rumours have surfaced of Toyota testing the car with a Mazda-sourced 3.3-litre e-Skyactiv G mild-hybrid inline-six engine, the report suggests this configuration is unlikely to be approved for production.

Don’t want to miss out on the iconic Supra experience? The A90 Toyota GR Supra is still available in Malaysia in its “Track Edition” guise, priced from RM698,000 on the road and without insurance.
The GR Supra Track Edition receives several upgrades, including new alloy wheels, more aggressive side skirts, a carbon fibre rear spoiler, as well as a retuned suspension system and limited-slip differential (LSD) for enhanced driving dynamics. What hasn’t changed, however, is the powertrain — it still produces 388 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between an eight-speed ZF automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
