MG has taken the wraps off its new MG GO! Concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Displayed alongside the Cyber Concept, the Go! is a retro-futuristic B-segment electric hatchback that previews the brand’s future compact electric vehicle (EV), expected to arrive in 2027.
MG says the concept was entirely developed by the brand’s London design team, led by Carl Gotham, Design Director of MG’s Advanced Design division. The GO! Concept’s retro-futuristic styling is said to reinterpret MG’s British identity for a new generation, built around a clean, simple design language that draws inspiration from a string of iconic MG models, including the MGB GT, MG Metro Turbo, MG ZR and MG EX4. The influence of the MGB GT is especially apparent, with the concept borrowing its low roofline for an almost fastback, GT-like profile, along with a sloping C-pillar reminiscent of the classic coupe.
Rather than simply looking backwards, MG wants the GO! Concept to feel intentional yet playful, saying it believes “everyday cars can still have distinct personalities and create genuine emotional connections.” The brand is positioning it as more than just a retro-futuristic design study, insisting the car stands on its own while still acknowledging its heritage.
The Go! Concept features a rounded front end paired with distinctive front and rear LED light signatures, all wrapped around compact hatchback proportions. A particularly neat touch is the MG badge integrated directly into the C-pillar.
The concept is also dressed in a sportier fashion than a typical city hatch would suggest, with wide side fenders, large four-spoke alloy wheels, and an aggressive front splitter and rear diffuser. While this specific trim isn’t expected to reach production, it’s a clear reminder that MG hasn’t forgotten its roots as a maker of iconic hot hatches from the 1960s through the 1980s.

MG has yet to reveal detailed specifications, but Autocar suggests that it will eventually become something called the ‘MG2’, which will stand alongside the existing MG3 hatch. The publication also reports that the MG GO! Concept measures around four metres in length. This makes it slightly smaller than the 4,113 mm-long MG3 hatchback, placing it closer in size to electric superminis such as the Renault 5 and Peugeot E-208.
MG Design Director of Advanced Design, Carl Gotham, said, “With MG GO!, we wanted to create something compact and contemporary, but also warm, expressive and immediately likeable, an embodiment of all that we admire about the MG brand. It is not about looking back for its own sake, but about capturing some of the clarity, charm and emotional appeal that have always made MG so distinctive, and reinterpreting that in a way that feels relevant today and crucially creating something with strong charisma.”
