Jaecoo is going big here in Malaysia, with plans to launch two of its luxury off-roaders in the country. One of them is the J7, which some of you might be familiar with already, while the other model is the even more luxurious and high-tech Jaecoo J8 PHEV. So, what’s the J8 PHEV all about? Do check out our video to find out.
Having just made its debut at the Beijing Motor Show held just a while ago, we can expect the Jaecoo J8 PHEV to make its launch in Malaysia by Q4 2024, right after the J7, which launch is set to happen within the first half (1H) of this year.
On the outside, Jaecoo has designed the J8 to look grand yet not too busy. It gets standard equipment such as LED headlights, sequential turn signals, flush door handles, 20-inch wheels, and even adaptive suspension.
As its name suggests, the Jaecoo J8 PHEV is powered by a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. The system consists of a 1.5-litre TGDi petrol engine and a dual electric motor setup, one for each axle, resulting in a system output of 605 hp and 915 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via the brand’s all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

The Jaecoo J8 PHEV is claimed to be able to travel in pure electric vehicle (EV) mode as far as 175 km (NEDC). It also supports DC fast charging, along with the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function to power your appliances or whatnot.
Moving inside, you will find 6 seats here, unlike the 5-seater non-hybrid version that was previewed in Malaysia earlier this year. There are also two captain seats on the second row that come with heating and ventilation functions.
To keep the passengers comfortable, there are also B-pillar-mounted aircon vents. Other features thrown in include heated and ventilated front seats, dual 12.3-inch displays, as well as speaker cutouts on the headrests.
