There’s a new car brand in town, and it is Jaecoo, a sub-brand from Chery the Chinese automaker. Together with the preview of the J7 in Malaysia, Jaecoo has also previewed the Jaecoo J8 – a luxury SUV that shares the same underpinnings as the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.
So what exactly are we looking at here? Well, the Jaecoo J8 luxury SUV is a 5-seater SUV that measures 4,815 mm long, 1,924 mm wide, and 1,710 mm tall. It’s pretty much the size of a Mazda CX-8 or a Kia Sorento.

Looks-wise, it does emulate some Range Rover-esque design elements but also looks like something Great Wall Motors would produce. A fancy touch to the exterior of the Jaecoo J8 is its flush door handles which boost the “premium” feel of the car.
What’s under the hood? It’s the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that can be found in the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max. The Chery version outputs 254 hp (metric) and 390 Nm, but we have yet to confirm the official performance figures for the Jaecoo J8. Paired with the 2.0-litre turbocharged mill is a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The technical highlight of the Jaecoo J8 is its “cutting edge” CDC magnetic suspension with millisecond-level adjustment responsiveness. According to the company, the “system can adaptively adjust electronic damping, effectively adjusting the vehicle’s posture in real-time according to surrounding road conditions, so that the entire vehicle is always in the best driving condition.”
The J8 also boasts some special safety highlights like a high-strength steel usage rate of 85% and a 360° 10-airbag system which includes a “far-end safety airbag” between the driver and passenger seats. Jaecoo says that the J8 adheres to the highest global 5-star safety standards and touts the J8 as a “mobile fortress of safety”.

The Jaecoo J8 will soon be launched in Malaysia and the company says that more information on the car’s specifications will be revealed as we approach the official launch date.
