Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has previewed the new Jaecoo J5 EV at the ongoing Oh My Meow! Expo 2026, running from 9 to 12 July 2026. The preview marks the official local debut of the brand’s first fully electric (EV) model.
This battery-electric variant swaps the standard petrol variant’s 1.5-litre turbocharged engine for a front-mounted traction motor producing 211 hp (155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque. Paired with a 58.9 kWh LFP battery sourced from CATL, delivering a claimed range of 402 km (WLTP).
While Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia did not fully disclose local charging specifications, the company stated the SUV can recharge from 30-80% in 28 minutes with DC charging. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality is also supported to power external electrical devices.
Externally, the electric vehicle retains the silhouette and identical dimensions of its petrol-powered sibling. The front fascia removes the conventional grille with a unique perforated design and a subtle “BEV” emblem.

Other confirmed exterior features include an active grille shutter to automatically optimise airflow for efficiency, a panoramic sunroof, and a powered tailgate.
Storage solutions consist of a 35-litre front trunk under the bonnet and a 480-litre rear boot, complemented by 35 individual storage spaces throughout the cabin. Inside, the layout mirrors the petrol-powered Jaecoo J5 but introduces unique elements like blue stitching on the upholstery, which could mirror the petrol model’s anti-bacterial, scratch-resistant, and TÜV-certified pet-friendly material properties.

Additional equipment includes a 13.2-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, a 540-degree surround-view camera, and 19 ADAS safety functions.
Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia did not provide any indicative pricing for the Jaecoo J5 EV. However, with the EV crossover now officially previewed, we reckon its official market debut is not too far off, so stay tuned!
