Jaecoo J6 confirmed for Malaysia – EV Defender replica to make local debut soon

Jaecoo Malaysia has confirmed that the Jaecoo J6 electric SUV will be launched in Malaysia soon. The J6 is a rugged-looking electric SUV and it looks like a futuristic Suzuki Jimny or even JLR’s Defender.

The Jaecoo J6 measures 4,406 mm long, 1,910 mm wide, and 1,715 mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 2,715 mm, stretching the wheels out to the very end of the car’s four corners. This is also beneficial in an off-roading sense as the Jaecoo J6 has very short overhangs.

From the front, the Jaecoo J6’s headlights seem to draw inspiration from a Peugeot although its “fangs” aren’t quite as sleek. It has also managed to nail the same family look together with the J7, although its “grille” is a bit sleeker.

All around the Jaecoo J6, it is covered with unpainted claddings typical for an off-roader. It also has electric pop-out door handles that supposedly improve the aerodynamics of the car at high speeds (despite its already boxy design). Its wheel arches protrude significantly, and from the back, the Jaecoo J6 seems to have taken inspiration from the JLR’s Defender.

Jaecoo has yet to share full specifications of the Jaecoo J6, although it will likely share the same underpinnings as the iCar 03. iCar is also a sub-brand of Chery, and its “03” can be had with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. It also has a 69.8 kWh battery pack, which could supposedly provide 501 km of range (CLTC).

Inside, the Jaecoo J6 is a typical modern EV with its massive horizontal head unit and sleek digital instrument cluster. The centre console also provides some “Oh my God” handles as well, suggesting an adventurous life with the J6. In the second row, the J6 has a completely flat floor and we can’t help but think of JLR’s Defender as we explore the J6’s cabin.

With the Jaecoo J6 confirmed for Malaysia, Jaecoo Malaysia says that a right-hand drive (RHD) Jaecoo J6 will make its debut at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow.
