Jaecoo J8 PHEV six-seater makes debut in China – expected to be in Malaysia Q4 2024

The Jaecoo J8 PHEV has made its debut in China and here are some initial images of the premium SUV. It’s expected to arrive in Malaysia in Q4 of 2024.

The J8 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-litre engine, with two electric motors (one each for the front and rear wheels) and a dedicated hybrid transmission to drive the wheels. The Jaecoo J8’s total output is 605 hp and 915 Nm of torque.

As for its 0-100 km/h time, the J8 PHEV completes the run in 5.4 seconds. Bet you didn’t expect that! Charging can be done by way of AC or DC charging and as we’ve noticed, there is even a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function that allows the car to charge your electronic devices.

Information has been scarce on the car’s specifications but here’s what we spotted on the car. Unlike the 5-seater model previewed in Malaysia earlier this year, this one’s a six-seater, with two captain seats in the second row. Comfort is further elevated by lumbar support with electric adjustments for the second row, air-con vents on the B-pillar, sunshades, seat heating and ventilation.

The third row comes with two seats and some storage on each side. Legroom is sufficient but if you’re 175-180 cm and taller, you might want the second row seats. The J8 uses a switch instead of a door pull to open and close the doors, with countless details that scream ‘Mercedes-Benz’.

Seat ventilation is also available in the front seat, with the addition of speaker cutouts on the headrests. The J8 PHEV also comes with wireless charging, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, a head-up display and dual 12.3-inch displays.

On the outside, the Jaecoo J8 PHEV is fitted with LED headlamps, sequential turn signals, retracting door handles, 20-inch wheels, and even adaptive suspension. Word is that the Jaecoo J8 PHEV is expected to be in the RM200k price range, would you consider it attractive?
