Can you guess which model Toyota is teasing with this blacked-out thing?

Toyota USA has just released a teaser video with the accompanying caption of “There’s something bold and mysterious in the darkness…stay tuned to discover more!”

The incredibly quick seven-second video just focuses on the Toyota logo, now in black, on an equally black paintwork.

The fitment of a camera unit informs that this is the rear of the vehicle, so that is a start. A quick check on the close proximity of the Toyota logo and reverse camera indicates this new model isn’t a Toyota GT86 or Corolla.

It also eliminates the Camry and the GR Supra as these models have their names spelt just under the Toyota corporate emblem. Hybrid models meanwhile have emblems with blue inserts, such as the Prius.

A sporty Toyota RAV4 coming then? Perhaps, as the model now packs 306 hp thanks to the addition of two motors and a large battery pack with the 2.5-litre Dynamic Force petrol engine. The Toyota RAV4 Plug-in hybrid model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds. Electric range from the new 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is rated at around 75 km based on WLTP cycle.

In Malaysia meanwhile, UMW Toyota introduced a higher-performance version of the evergreen Vios sedan, called the Toyota Vios GR Sport. It does not black emblems, but plenty of well-matched gloss black treatment on the side mirrors, 17-inch wheels and specially designed GR Sport bodykit.

Inside the cabin, we counted a total of eight ‘GR’ emblems. So, what could this all-black Goth-like Toyota special model be?
