The BYD Dolphin facelift has launched in China with three variants, and it looks every bit of what we’ve seen from last December. Aside from its new looks, the facelifted model also comes with God’s Eye C autonomous driving-assisted system (ADAS) as standard.
The newly facelifted BYD Dolphin looks much sleeker all around and sits on some new 17-inch wheels. The most striking feature is the redesigned taillights at the back, which now bears the initials of the Chinese carmaker’s name rather than the full name taking up the entire width of the rear. Oh, and it illuminates too. Tasteful.
The inside sees some changes from the pre-facelift BYD Dolphin, too. The 12.8-inch screen gains 5G connectivity, and the driver’s side gets a larger 8.8-inch digital cluster. Additionally, the selector knob is now found on the steering column – similar to the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. This, in turn, frees up more space for larger drink cups or bottles.
The BYD Dolphin’s party piece is the God’s Eye ADAS system. Being in the lower castes of BYD’s offerings, it gets the God’s Eye C ADAS system with DiPilot 100 hardware. This includes the usual ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), anti-lock braking system (ABS), lane change assist, lane departure assist (LDA), adaptive cruise control (ACC), remote parking assist (RPA), and so on.

The BYD Dolphin face comes in three variants, namely the ‘Base’, ‘Fashion’, and ‘Knight’ variant.
Both the Base and Fashion variants share the same 45.12 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. However, the Base variant has 95 hp and 180 Nm of torque, whilst the Fashion variant has 177 hp and 290 Nm of torque.
0-50 km/h time for the Base and Fashion variants is clocked at 4.3 seconds and 3.5 seconds respectively. Additionally, both cars are rated with an EV range of 420 km and 410 km (CLTC) respectively.
Meanwhile, the top-of-the-range Knight variant is the sole recipient of the larger 60.48 kWh battery pack, complete with 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. 0-50 km/h time is accomplished in 3.5 seconds and has a 520 km CLTC-rated EV range.
All variants have the same AC charging rate of 7 kW. Both Base and Fashion variants have DC fast charging up to 80 kWh, while the Knight variant has a maximum charging rate of 110 kW.

Here in Malaysia, we have two variants of the pre-facelift BYD Dolphin instead of three like in China: Standard and Extended priced at RM100,000 and RM124,900 respectively. The Standard variant has 95 hp (70 kW) and 180 Nm of torque, enough for a 0-100 km/h time of 12.3 seconds. The base model also has a 44.9 kWh LFP battery pack rated for 340 km (WLTP) EV driving range.
Meanwhile, the Extended variant has 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque with a faster 7-second 0-100 km/h sprint time. This variant also sees a bigger 60.48 kWh LFP battery pack with a further EV driving range of 427 km (WLTP).
