EPMB breaks ground on RM200 million vehicle painting facility in Melaka

EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) has broken ground on a new vehicle painting facility in Pegoh, Melaka, slated to commence operations on 30 June 2027.

Driven by an investment worth RM200 million, the site will operate on extended production shifts to deliver an annual capacity of approximately 30,000 vehicle bodies at a line speed of 15 units per hour, marking EPMB’s transition from a traditional Tier-1 component supplier into a vertically integrated automotive manufacturing partner.

The facility integrates with existing production lines across an expanded 58-acre manufacturing campus capable of assembling sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and four-wheel-drive vehicles. Drivetrain support spans a wide spectrum, covering internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and battery electric vehicle (BEV) platforms.

The Melaka assembly facility currently caters to prominent global brands such as GWM, BAIC, SAIC Motors, and Xpeng, the latter recently began rolling out the locally assembled (CKD) XPeng G6, with the XPeng X9 set to follow shortly.

Monthly production volumes at the Pegoh campus currently already surpass 1,000 vehicles. EPMB expects further scaling as new programmes debut, with export operations already commenced for the GWM Wey G9 into Thailand, as well as the MG S5 EV to South America. The company will continue to collaborate with OEM partners to penetrate the wider ASEAN and international left-hand-drive markets.

“Vehicle painting is among the highest value-added processes in automotive manufacturing. It is a critical process that increases local content, enhances industrial participation and strengthens the competitiveness of Malaysia’s automotive sector,” said EPMB Executive Chairman Hamidon Abdullah.

“With this new facility, EPMB will offer a more complete CKD manufacturing solution encompassing localisation, vehicle assembly and painting operations within Malaysia,” he added.
