Sime Motor launches BYD Mansion Macalister in Penang as brand’s first heritage showroom in Malaysia

The official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, Sime Motor, has launched the BYD Mansion Macalister, its latest 3S centre located in Penang. Operated by Sime Beyond Auto, the company’s authorised BYD retail partner, the new outlet marks the brand’s first heritage showroom in Malaysia.

Located along Jalan Macalister in Georgetown, Penang, the new showroom joins BYD’s network of over 43 showrooms nationwide and more than 25 dedicated aftersales centres. Repurposing what was once a commercial landmark for the local community, the contemporary showroom sits on a 26,994 square-foot parcel of land with approximately 9,000 square feet of built-up space.

Interestingly, much of the building’s original design and architecture was preserved during the restoration process, resulting in a contemporary space that blends heritage with modernity. Upon entering the mansion, visitors are welcomed by the main showroom floor, which accommodates up to three display vehicles integrated with digital touchscreens.

Access to the second floor is via a spiral staircase, complemented by a centrally placed bonsai tree that adds to the showroom’s premium ambience. Upstairs, customers are greeted by an intricate lounge area inspired by vintage Nyonya-style interiors. The space also features BYD-branded merchandise displays, alongside a bar counter serving light snacks and drinks.

Towards the rear of the property, the facility also houses an integrated service centre with five work bays, alignment facilities, as well as charging hubs for owners.

Present at the official launch were Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Penang State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Town and Country Planning, YB H’ng Mooi Lye, BYD Vice President and General Manager of Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, Liu Xueliang, and Sime Motors Managing Director of Southeast Asia, Jeffrey Gan.

Liu said, “Our commitment to Malaysia reflects BYD’s global vision of making sustainable mobility accessible to all. We continue to channel our technological innovations and research capabilities into this market because we believe in Malaysia’s electric future.”

“Our continuous investment in upskilling local talent in EV technologies and bringing in the latest technology and products to Malaysia also demonstrates our long-term promise to the nation. BYD Mansion Macalister serves as a premier embodiment of this vision, seamlessly blending world-class innovation with a deep respect for local heritage,” he added.

Complementing his statements, Jeffrey said, “Our commitment to Malaysia is measured in the trust our customers place in us every day. We are building a local network that ensures every BYD owner enjoys seamless, reassuring support for the lifetime of their vehicle.”

“With more than 30 after-sales centres and an elite team of Malaysia’s own certified technicians and service advisors, we are elevating the standards of automotive care. Integrated showroom hubs like BYD Mansion Macalister offer consultation, care, and charging under one roof, ensuring we deliver a premium customer experience,” he added.

In conjunction with its launch, the branch also celebrated the delivery of the 5,000th BYD vehicle in the Northern region, represented by a unit of the BYD M6. The event also saw the unveiling of two special one-off display vehicles — the BYD Sealion 7 and BYD Atto 2 — both customised with heritage-inspired liveries designed to complement the century-old Peranakan-style building.

Moving forward, BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors say they will continue investing in talent development through ongoing training programmes for technicians, sales advisors, and aftersales professionals. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to Malaysia during the launch of the showroom, stating that it will continue collaborating with relevant government authorities to identify the most suitable NEV solutions for the local market.
