BYD has unveiled the Atto 2 in the United Kingdom and Europe, with Australia reportedly set to follow suit by the end of this year. Known as the Yuan Up in its home country in China, the compact electric SUV is introduced as the newest addition to the Atto family next to the Atto 3, and slots itself in between the existing BYD Dolphin and Atto 3.
Pricing has not been confirmed in the UK and Europe just yet, but Drive reports that the BYD Atto 2 will start at around GBP27,000 (approx. RM150k), which is around the same price as the MG4 in the country. The MG4 starts at RM103,999 here in Malaysia.
The BYD Atto 2 also measures approximately the same size as the MG4, except substantially taller thanks to its crossover proportions, as opposed to a more traditional hatchback silhouette on the MG4.
There will be two trim levels available for the BYD Atto 2 in Europe at launch, dubbed Active and Boost. The Active receives 17-inch wheels, a 10.1-inch touchscreen on the interior, leather seats, rearview camera, rear parking radars, six speakers and airbags.
Meanwhile, the Boost trim level upgrades to a 12.8-inch screen, heated steering wheel and seats, eight speakers, plus an extra parking radar at the front of the car and surround-view camera system. A third “Comfort” variant is slated to join the line-up later in 2025.
The BYD Atto 2 is built on the e-Platform 3.0, much like the Dolphin and Atto 3. Available solely in a single motor setup, the Atto 2’s front-wheel drive electric motor has an output of 174 hp (130 kW) and 230 Nm of torque, sending the compact crossover EV from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds before topping out at 160 km/h.
In Europe, both the Active and Boost variants are equipped the same 312 km WLTP-rated range provided by the 45.12 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Those in the UK, however, will get a bit more range (still unrated from WLTP) thanks to a 50 kWh battery pack – with the upcoming Comfort variant to receive an even larger battery for even more range.
The BYD Atto 3 was the first model to be launched by the brand here in Malaysia, and remains the only model under the “Atto” range currently on sale here. It’s only offered in a single ‘Extended Range’ variant priced at RM149,800, and packs a single motor on the front axle making 201 hp and 310 Nm for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.3 seconds.
Electric juice is supplied by a 60.48 kWh battery pack, which translates to a WLTP-rated range of 420 km. Charging is supported at up to 7 kW on AC power, and 88 kW using a DC fast charger.

The smallest model in the line-up, the BYD Dolphin, meanwhile has two variants: Dynamic Standard Range and Premium Extended Range. The Dynamic Standard Range is priced at RM100,530, and has 95 hp and 180 Nm with a 0-100 km/h time of 12.3 seconds, plus a WLTP-rated range of 340 km from its 44.9 kWh battery pack.
Meanwhile, the Premium Extended Range, priced at RM125,530, has a performance figure of 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque with a 7.0-second sprint time. It’s also rated for 427 km (WLTP) with a 60.48 kWh battery pack.
Given that the Atto 2 sits in between the Dolphin and Atto 3 in BYD’s EV line-up, could we expect the model to be priced between the RM120k-RM150k bracket – if it makes it way here into Malaysia?
There’s certainly a case for it to be introduced here in Malaysia, especially with the prevalence of compact crossovers like the Proton X50, Honda HR-V, and more notably in the EV segment, the Zeekr X and Volvo EX30 – but only time will tell if BYD will take the plunge…
