Raymond Tan becomes first Malaysian to lead BMW Group Malaysia

Raymond Tan

BMW Group Malaysia announced the appointment of Raymond Tan as its new managing director, effective 1 September 2026. This transition marks a significant milestone, as Tan steps up as the first local leader to helm the national sales company. He takes over from Benjamin Nagel, who is moving on to oversee the importer markets of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.

As part of the pioneering team in 2003, Tan began his journey with the automaker as a product and price planning manager. His career tour included an assignment at the Munich headquarters as a regional product manager before returning to Malaysia to serve as head of marketing and eventually head of sales.

“I am excited to return to Malaysia to lead the national sales company as the first local managing director, particularly as the group prepares for a new era with the upcoming introduction of the Neue Klasse range,” Tan said. He added that his priorities will focus on developing the business, professionalising the retail network and strengthening customer loyalty.

Benjamin Nagel

Nagel departs after overseeing Malaysian operations through a period of transformation. During his tenure, BMW Group Malaysia maintained its leadership in the premium segment and expanded its electric mobility ecosystem.

Highlights under his tenure included achieving market leadership in premium electric vehicles, introducing the local assembly of fully electric models and expanding regional facility infrastructure. Drawing on over two decades of international experience across Germany, India, South Africa and the wider Asia-Pacific region, Nagel will now apply his expertise in sales and network strategy to his new regional assignment.

Commenting on his transition, Nagel expressed pride in leading the Malaysian market and noted that he looks forward to bringing those regional insights to his new role while continuing to drive sustainable growth across Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
