UMW Toyota Motor has launched the new Toyota Vios Hybrid Electric in Malaysia. Two variants are available, with prices starting from RM103,900, on-the-road, without insurance.
- Toyota Vios 1.5 HEV – RM103,900
- Toyota Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport – RM109,900
The new Toyota Vios 1.5 HEV comes in RM7,300 more expensive than the range-topping petrol-powered Vios 1.5G. However, against the RM111,900 Honda City RS e:HEV sedan in the same segment, the Toyota Vios Hybrid is RM8,000 cheaper for the base 1.5 HEV and RM2,000 cheaper for the top-range GR-S variant.

Under the bonnet, the Vios HEV uses Toyota’s fourth-generation series-parallel hybrid system, pairing a 91 hp/121 Nm 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine with an 80 hp/141 Nm electric motor and a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The setup produces a combined 111 hp and sends it to the front wheels via an E-CVT that allows the engine and motor to drive the car individually or simultaneously, depending on what is most efficient at any given driving condition. In return, the Vios HEV boasts a fuel consumption figure of just 3.6 L/100 km (NEDC), which is 30% lower than the Vios 1.5 G, according to the company.
This powertrain is wrapped in an exterior largely similar to the Vios 1.5G, save for a few subtle differences. The most notable change is the wheels; the Vios 1.5 HEV comes equipped with 16-inch, five-lug aerodynamic alloys instead of the 17-inch, four-lug items found on the Vios 1.5G. There is also an “HEV” emblem on the tailgate, dark chrome plating for the side window trims, and a gun metallic finish for the front grille and the trim piece between the rear taillights.
Furthermore, the chassis of the Toyota Vios Hybrid features additional reinforcements for improved rigidity and safety. To offset the weight of the battery pack, the bonnet, fenders, door panels, and tailgate have been lightened. Refinement is further enhanced by an acoustic windscreen and additional insulation to reduce wind, engine, and road noise.
Other standard exterior equipment of the Toyota Vios Hybrid includes:
- Aerokit
- Automatic LED headlights with follow-me home function
- Automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers
- LED daytime running lights (DRLs)
- LED lights with sequential turn signals
- Power-adjustable side mirrors with auto-fold and indicator lights
- 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes CR1 tyres
The launch of the Vios hybrid also sees the reintroduction of the GR Sport variant to the Toyota Vios lineup in Malaysia. It features a retuned suspension setup and an electric power steering system for a more sporty driving experience. This variant was absent from the initial lineup when the current-generation (AC100) Toyota Vios made its Malaysian debut in 2023.
The Toyota Vios 1.5 HEV adds the following exterior kit:
- GR-S front grille and bumper
- GR-S aerokit
- Tailgate lip spoiler
- 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Continental Premium Contact C tyres
Like the exterior, the interior of the Toyota Vios Hybrid is also largely similar to the setup found in the Vios 1.5G, with the notable addition of a larger 10.1-inch centre infotainment display, compared to the nine-inch unit on the Vios 1.5G. This larger head unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the 3D Panoramic View Monitor (PVM).
The ambient lighting system has also been expanded with an additional strip on the dashboard, while the seven-inch instrument cluster screen now gets hybrid-specific displays.
Other standard interior equipment for the Toyota Vios 1.5 HEV includes:
- Black and brown interior leather upholstery
- Leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment
- 64-colour ambient lighting
- Single-zone automatic climate control with rear aircon vents
- Three USB ports: (1x Type-A) and (2x Type-C)

- Electronic parking brake (EPB)
- Six-speaker sound system
- Illuminated scuff plates

The Toyota Vios 1.5 HEV GR-S adds the following interior equipment:
- Black soft pad with silver stitching on the dashboard
- GR-S leather suede upholstery for the seats
- Floor mats with GR-S logo
- GR badge on the steering wheel

The GR-S variant will be offered in three exterior colours: Platinum White Pearl, Attitude Black Mica, and Scarlet SE (Red). A dual-tone option is also available, featuring a Black Mica roof, but only with White Pearl and Scarlet SE paint jobs.
To recap, the Toyota Vios Hybrid is priced from RM103,900 to RM109,900 for the two variants respectively. Included in the price is a five-year unlimited mileage warranty and an eight-year unlimited mileage warranty for the hybrid battery pack, inverter, and power management control ECU. Customers can opt to extend the battery pack and high-voltage components warranty for an additional two years, bringing the total warranty period to 10 years.
