GWM Malaysia has announced the delivery of its first locally assembled (CKD) GWM Wey G9 MPV. The milestone vehicle was handed over to none other than Malaysian music icon, Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza.
The handover ceremony took place at the GWM USJ showroom, not long after its official launch earlier this year, where Siti Nurhaliza was also introduced as the official WEY G9 brand ambassador.
Emphasising the GWM’s confidence in the Malaysian market, GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer (COO), Roslan Abdullah, said, “We are honoured to present the Wey G9 to Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza as its first owner and brand ambassador. Her professionalism, refined presence and enduring multi-generational appeal align seamlessly with the Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV’s positioning as a premium new energy MPV.”
Further complementing Roslan’s statements, Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza said, “The WEY G9 feels perfectly in tune with my everyday life. Its comfort, spaciousness, and thoughtful design make every journey more relaxed and enjoyable.”
“Whether I’m travelling for work, attending meetings, or spending time with my family, the experience feels smooth, calm, and reassuring. That sense of balance and ease is what I truly value,” she added.
Influenced by Siti Nurhaliza’s star power, and want one yourself? The GWM Wey G9 is offered in Malaysia in a single Hi4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant — priced at RM268,800 on the road, without insurance.
The car pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with two electric traction motors through a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), producing a combined 442 hp and 642 Nm of torque. With power sent to all four wheels, it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, with a top speed of 190 km/h — certainly impressive for an MPV of this class.

A 44.2 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery powers the electric systems, giving a claimed total range of over 1,000 km (NEDC) on a full tank and an electric-only range of up to 170 km (NEDC).
Charging supports up to 6.6 kW AC and 70 kW DC fast charging. AC charging takes 6.5 hours from 15-100%, while DC fast charging tops up 30-80% in just 26 minutes. The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality with up to 3.3 kW output.
It’s also worth noting that Siti Nurhaliza recently received her very own Zeekr 7X electric SUV, marking the milestone 2,000th unit in Malaysia. That’s quite the collection of Chinese vehicles — so what could be next? Perhaps a Chinese sports car?
