Toyota bZ7 flagship EV debuts in China – production next year

Toyota has officially unveiled its latest flagship battery electric vehicle (BEV), the Toyota bZ7, at Auto Shanghai 2025, marking a significant expansion of its all-electric lineup in the Chinese market.

The launch of the bZ7 highlights Toyota’s commitment to its multi-pathway strategy, which aims to offer consumers a range of sustainable mobility solutions.

The development of the Toyota bZ7 was made possible through a close partnership with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC), one of Toyota’s key allies in China. As the flagship model in Toyota’s bZ lineup, the bZ7 is designed to showcase the best of both Toyota and GAC’s engineering and design capabilities.

Visually, the bZ7 features a front end that draws clear inspiration from the Toyota Prius, with its signature hammerhead headlamp design. The rear, meanwhile, resembles the Toyota Crown, featuring a clean and modern light bar that spans the width of the car.

Inside, the Toyota bZ7 shares a familiar dashboard layout with its bZ siblings, such as the bZ4X, but elevates the experience with a premium cream interior and wood finishes. At the rear, the bZ7 reinforces its flagship status by featuring luxurious lounge-style seats, reminiscent of those found in a Lexus LS.

While not much information is available, Toyota says that the bZ7 measures over five meters in length, placing it firmly in the large sedan category. Production is expected to begin sometime next year.

Rumors suggest the bZ7 might be equipped with a BYD lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery—the same used in the bZ3. Given Toyota’s previous collaborations with BYD on battery technology, this wouldn’t come as a surprise.

As with many models in Toyota’s bZ lineup, the bZ7 is likely to remain exclusive to the Chinese market. Still, it’s hard not to imagine how exciting it would be to see a BEV like the bZ7 cruising down Malaysian roads.
