Proton eMAS 7 OTA roadmap – Apple CarPlay, ice-cream van sound update coming in July

Pro-net, national carmaker Proton’s new energy vehicle (NEV) arm, has announced a bevy of upcoming Over-The-Air (OTA) updates for the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7). This is the second tranche of updates announced by the company for the electric vehicle (EV) model, following the previous set of planned fixes announced in February this year.

The latest set of feature updates and improvements will include easier charging controls via the infotainment touchscreen and mobile app, enhanced battery preheating for faster charging, and updated connectivity features that’ll enable location updates during vehicle hibernation. Even driving performance has been upgraded through planned OTA updates, with reworked ABS tuning to improve driving comfort.

Additionally, a new planned update will also make scheduled travel more seamless by unlocking the car automatically when battery prep is complete – if you wish.

Some of these features have already been delivered to customer cars’ through an OTA update released earlier this month. However, the previously-announced switch to disable the notorious “ice cream van sound” will only be available to customers approximately in July, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay support.

Proton says the feature updates will be rolled out on a quarterly schedule. The Q2 OTA update in July will also include fixes for the radio scan memory issue on the Proton eMAS 7, as well as support for third-party apps on the infotainment display.

As for Q3, scheduled for October, the currently planned features include wired Apple CarPlay support, as well as a “speed warning sound sitch off memory” feature. For December as part of the Q4 updates, the Proton eMAS 7 will finally be getting Android Auto connectivity support, in both wired and wireless forms.
