Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery Malaysia) has completed the handover of all 50 vehicles under its one-month-long vehicle loan programme to victims affected by the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights on April 1, 2025.
Each recipient of the vehicle loan programme also received an additional RM100 in fuel assistance. This initiative was coordinated in collaboration with the offices of Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor State Exco for Investment, Trade and Mobility Ng Sze Han, and local authorities supporting the relief efforts.
Following the announcement of the vehicle loan programme, which came a day after the incident, Chery Malaysia delivered the initial 25 vehicles on April 4. The handover of the remaining vehicles to the final group of affected residents took place the previous week, on April 9.
Additionally, the carmaker has also donated RM50,000 to the Putra Heights mosque, which has been serving as a temporary evacuation centre for over 80 affected families. This donation aims to relieve the mosque’s operational burden, especially in increased utility costs as it continues to shelter affected victims displaced by the inferno.
Chery Malaysia has led the automotive industry’s support for the Putra Heights fire victims, with many other companies also joining the effort to provide temporary vehicle assistance, including used car marketplace Carro, Proton, and Tan Chong Motor.
