Perodua has signed another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a new company. This time, with MyDigital ID for secure cashless transactions.
According to the press release issued by Perodua, the MoU signed by both companies is to “secure user authentication access as the compact car company further improves its journey in cashless transactions.”
For those who are unaware, MyDigital ID is the national digital identification system in Malaysia. It is designed with the purpose of streamlining online authentication and access to both government and private digital services, with safety and convenience being paramount.
“This collaboration is the first of its kind for the country’s automotive industry as MyDigital ID being the country’s gatekeeper for authentication transactions enables us to further diversify our services to our customers specifically, and to all Malaysians in general,” said Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

MyDigital ID Chief Operation Officer Mohd Azuddin Parman says that this strategic collaboration with the national carmaker demonstrates the important role of digital identity in accelerating digital transformation within the automotive industry.
“The key is to ensure trusted digital identity verification while making digital interactions safer and more convenient. It empowers industries like the automotive industry to offer secure and user-friendly experiences for every customer. At the same time, we are contributing to the advancement of Malaysia’s digital economy.” said Mohd Azuddin.

For the past six months, Perodua has been on a hot streak in signing MoUs with different companies. So far, they had inked MoUs with Petronas, University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Telekom Malaysia (TM), and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
The press release was vague about the potential outcomes of the partnership between Perodua and MyDigital ID, although we speculate it could be used for cashless payment solutions at Perodua service centres.
Another potential use case could be the integration of payment systems in the upcoming Perodua EV’s infotainment system, which will be developed in partnership with TM. National carmaker Proton has previously also introduced an in-car payment system for parking, although that is courtesy of the Pay & Go app, rather than a self-developed solution.
