BYD has revealed the first photos of the all-new Sealion 05 in China, which will slot into the marque’s EV line-up underneath the Sealion 7 as the compact SUV offering. The new model will officially go on sale on March 25th, with first units of the BYD Sealion 05 already arriving in dealerships across China, CarNewsChina reports.
No official pricing information has been released yet, but according to the publication, dealers reportedly paid between RMB115,000 (approx. RM70k) and RMB135,000 (approx. RM83k) when ordering cars from BYD, with any excess refunded upon the official price announcement.
The BYD Sealion 05 measures 4,520 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,630 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, making it smaller than the BYD Sealion 7, yet longer and taller (but narrower) than the BYD Atto 3.
On the outside, the Sealion 05 has inherited many of the design trends seen on other BYD EVs, particularly those in the Ocean Series. The taillights, in particular, look to be a modernised version of those on the Seal 06GT.
Inside, the Sealion 05’s interior is similar to that of the Sealion 7, but on a smaller scale. There’s a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment display, and a digital gauge cluster integrated into the dashboard.
Other interior features reportedly include a wireless charging pad, a refrigerator and a frunk on the BYD Sealion 05.

Powering the Sealion 05 is a rear-mounted electric motor, offering outputs of 190 hp (140 kW) or 217 hp (160 kW), according to information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Both variants share a top speed of 180 km/h, regardless of powertrain output. Two BYD Blade battery pack sizes, 50.048 kWh and 60.928 kWh, provide ranges of 430 km and 520 km respectively, though the specific test cycle for those ranges weren’t disclosed.
No charging information was disclosed for the BYD Sealion 05, but CarNewsChina reports that the SUV will be equipped with BYD’s new “God’s Eye” advanced driving assistance system (ADAS).
Specifically, it will feature the God’s Eye C system. This ADAS system is powered by DiPilot 100 and features a collection of hardware which includes 12 cameras, five millimetre-wave radars for 360-degree blind spot perception, as well as 12 ultrasonic radar sensors.
It remains to be seen whether BYD will bring the Sealion 05 to Malaysia. If it does, it will likely be positioned between the BYD Atto 3 and the Sealion 07. With the BYD Atto 3 at RM124,500 and the Sealion 7 ranging from RM183,800 to RM199,800, the Sealion 05 could potentially be priced within the RM150k range and potentially filling a gap in the market segment.
