Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Perodua have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), thus forging a strategic partnership to drive EV adoption in Malaysia by strengthening the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the country.
In a press release published by TNB, the two companies will collaborate on several “energy-related solutions”, including the installation of TNB Electron EV charging stations at select Perodua outlets and solar panel infrastructure on Perodua premises.
The partnership will also see the two companies conduct joint studies on integration of renewable energy in Perodua’s ecosystem including its vendors and dealers, and facilitate the adoption of Malaysia Renewable Energy Certificate (mREC) to assist Perodua in reducing total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In addition, TNB will also expand its EV charging network to key strategic locations as part of the MoU with Perodua, such as shopping malls, highways, petrol stations, and commercial and residential areas.
“The adoption of EVs is no longer a distant goal; it is happening now. TNB is committed to ensuring that EV users have access to a robust and reliable charging network,” said TNB President and CEO Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan. “Our collaboration with Perodua will accelerate these efforts by integrating solutions into their extensive automotive network.”

He adds that Perodua is uniquely positioned to drive mass EV adoption by making EVs more affordable for its everyday consumers, as the national carmaker has the means and scale to deliver Malaysia’s first sub-RM100,000 EV.
Perodua is set to begin its testing of the eMO-II EV in June, with the launch date taking place sometime in December.
“As leading Malaysian companies, Perodua and TNB share the goal of promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility. This collaboration complements our EV journey by ensuring accessibility, affordability, and convenience for Malaysians.” said Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
