Perodua and TM sign partnership for EV development, to collaborate on custom infotainment and EV charging systems


Perodua and TM have entered into a strategic partnership, with aims to advance the former’s electric vehicle (EV) development as it prepares to unveil its first fully electric model this year.

The signing of the collaboration between TM and Perodua will focus on four strategic areas, namely: Hyperconnected Network, Advancing Digital Technology, Enriching Customer Experience, and Environment Stability.

Most notably, the collaboration will see the two companies co-develop several consumer-facing products, including customised infotainment systems, smart mapping solutions, and autonomous driving technologies, all of which could play a significant part in catering the upcoming Perodua EV to Malaysians’ tastes and preferences.

Additionally, TM, via TM One, its enterprise and government sector solutions arm, aims to upgrade Perodua’s existing infrastructure in providing fixed and wireless connectivity such as SD-WAN solutions, private 5G for automotive applications, and smart manufacturing technologies for improved vehicle production.

These technological solutions are aimed at enhancing the carmaker’s operational capabilities, streamline its data management, and support its future expansion, leveraging its cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and AI capabilities to provide initiatives for smart manufacturing.

In addition, TM and Perodua are committed to environmental sustainability, collaborating for EV charging infrastructure and waste reduction goals in line with Malaysia’s environmental goals.

Furthermore, the partnership between the two companies will foster a culture of innovation through workforce training, R&D, and sustainable practices for a digitally connected and environmentally responsible future in Malaysia’s automotive sector.

Detailing on the partnership, TM Group Chief Executive Officer Amar Md. Deris said that it reflects TM’s commitment to enabling the digital transformation in the automotive industry, improving user experiences and long-term value, as well as supporting Perodua’s mission for greater innovation and growth in the automotive industry.

Meanwhile, Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad states that the collaboration with TM highlights the carmaker’s goal of modernising the automotive industry.

“This collaboration covers several aspects that will benefit our customers as well as having spillover effects to the country’s digital and automotive industries,” he said.

Recently in the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, Perodua has unveiled the eMO-II concept, serving as a preview to its first fully electric model slated for release in 2025. The production model will be a home-grown production unit fully developed in Rawang, and will come with a 400 KM range.
