Remember those recently camouflaged units of the upcoming fully electric (EV) Volvo EX90 spotted in Malaysia? Well, now we can see the car in its entirety, as Volvo Cars Malaysia (VCM) has previewed the EX90 in Malaysia, and bookings are now open for the all-new fully electric seven-seater flagship SUV – alongside its hybrid sibling, the 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift.
According to VCM, Malaysia is the second market in Asia-Pacific to introduce the EX90, following its launch in Thailand last year. The price of the Volvo EX90 in Malaysia is estimated at around RM450,000. VCM has not announced any specific details for the model yet, so we’ll likely have to wait until the launch – which should be happening very soon.

For now, we can only infer from what we see from the car on preview, which appears to be the Twin Motor Performance variant in a seven-seater configuration, based on the extra “Twin Motor” badge on the tailgate.
While its exterior silhouette remains largely similar to the XC90’s upright profile, the all-new Volvo EX90 has now grown in almost all dimensions, save for its height, measuring 87 mm longer, 41 mm wider, but 29 mm lower than its hybrid counterpart.
The exterior features 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres and a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof. The headlights, still with Volvo’s signature Thor’s hammer design, now feature a pixelated look for its light signature, whose party trick is that they split open to reveal the headlights inside.
Towards the rear, there’s a tail light design is akin to the Volvo EX30’s, featuring a split vertical design on the rear windscreen. We don’t expect many differences between the variants (if any) on the outside, although it should be noted that the Volvo EX90 in Thailand does ride on slightly smaller 20-inch alloy wheels – which we could see on a lower-spec variant too.

Stepping inside, Volvo’s Swedish minimalism is in full display with a redesigned dashboard centred around a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the centre, running the marque’s latest version of Google’s Android Automotive OS software.
Despite the use of more environmentally-friendly materials, such as the Nordico faux leather upholstery (in black) and eco-certified wood veneers, the Volvo EX90 still feels and looks premium on the inside.
In terms of interior niceties, the show car comes equipped with a large panoramic sunroof, a nine-inch letterbox-style digital gauge cluster, a wireless phone charger on the centre console, and a 25-speaker premium Bowers & Wilkins 3D sound system. The preview unit is also configured as a seven-seater.
It’s not quite clear yet if VCM will offer the EX90 as a six-seater, or if it’ll only be available as a seven-seater – the former is available as an option on the range-topping ‘Ultra’ variant in Thailand.
The Volvo EX90 is available in two powertrain options in globally (and in Thailand), both of which are all-wheel drive powered by two motors. The first is the base Twin Motor configuration, offering 408 hp (300 kW) and 770 Nm from its two motors for a century sprint time of 5.9 seconds.
The higher-end variant meanwhile, dubbed the ‘Twin Motor Performance’, is equipped with a more powerful 517 hp (380 kW) and 910 Nm dual-motor setup. This shaves off a whole second from its century sprint time, letting the massive electric SUV go from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Top speed, in true Volvo fashion, is limited to 180 km/h.

Juicing the electric motors on both variants is the same 111 kWh (107 kWh nett usable) nickel manganese cobalt ternary battery pack, providing a WLTP range of 600 km for the base variant, while the Performance variant has a slightly lower range of 590 km (WLTP).
Charging is supported with AC charging at 11 kW and DC charging at 250 kW. The latter allows a 10%-80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.
We’re guessing we won’t have to wait too long for the full launch of the Volvo EX90, since they’re showing it off now. For those who are still holding on to internal combustion engines, VCM is also opening up orders for the new facelifted Volvo XC90 here in Malaysia which is also expected to be priced from RM450,000. It’s got a fresh look with a new front grille and headlights, and while the back keeps the same taillight shape, they’ve given it a new lighting pattern.
