Volvo EX30 updated for 2026 with new 150 hp entry-level variant, V2L coming to existing cars via OTA

Volvo has updated the EX30 for the 2026 model year, which adds a new entry-level powertrain to the lineup alongside refreshed interior options for the compact electric crossover.

The former introduces a new rear-mounted electric motor producing 150 hp (110 kW). As standard, this is paired with a 51 kWh battery, providing a range of 339 km (WLTP). For those requiring more range, the new powertrain can be specified with a larger 69 kWh battery pack, extending the range to 476 km (WLTP).

Both configurations were first introduced in Singapore last year to satisfy the country’s Cat A Certificate of Entitlement (COE) requirements. The new entry-level powertrain option is now available in Europe as part of the MY2026 update.

While the exterior of the Volvo EX30 remains identical to the outgoing model, the cabin receives two new interior themes, dubbed Harvest and Black.

The Harvest option offers a warm, light-toned aesthetic. It features light-coloured woven recycled textile upholstery contrasted with Nordico material made from recycled PET bottles. The look is finished with dark flax decor and a black headlining, a combination said to be inspired by the atmosphere of late Scandinavian summer evenings.

In contrast, the Black interior room provides a more monochromatic feel, utilising smooth Nordico upholstery with subtle contrasting seams paired with natural dark flax decor. While available as a standalone option across the range, this new interior is a hallmark of the expanded EX30 Black Edition.

For 2026, the Black Edition is no longer restricted to a single paint finish; it can now be specified in Onyx Black, Vapour Grey, or Crystal White, all featuring signature high-gloss black wheels and badging.

Beyond aesthetics, the 2026 EX30 introduces a new user experience (UX) for the infotainment system. This includes a redesigned settings and controls layout along with a customisable content bar. Volvo plans to roll this interface out to existing EX30 owners via an over-the-air (OTA) update during the summer of 2026.

Finally, the EX30 now officially supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. While the hardware was present in earlier models, the feature was previously restricted to selected markets. This update allows the car to act as a mobile power bank for external devices, a feature that will also be enabled for current owners via the same summer OTA update.

Closer to home, the pre-update Volvo EX30 is currently offered in two locally assembled (CKD) variants: Ultra and Ultra Twin Performance, priced from RM208,888 and RM228,888, respectively.

The Ultra variant is powered by a more potent rear-mounted electric motor producing 272 hp (200 kW) and 343 Nm. Paired with a 69 kWh NMC battery, the “base” variant here offers a range of 476 km (WLTP).

The flagship Ultra Twin Performance adds an electric motor to the front axle for an all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. This increases the total output to 428 hp (315 kW) and 543 Nm, allowing 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Equipped with the same 69 kWh battery, it offers a range of 450 km (WLTP).

Both current local variants support 11 kW AC charging, requiring approximately eight hours for a full charge, and DC fast charging at 175 kW, which enables a 10-80% recharge in 28 minutes.
