Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has announced that the Volvo EX90 and Volvo XC90 are now open for registration of interest on VCM’s website, hinting that the launch of these two Swedish SUVs is just around the corner.
The announcement follows the recent sightings of the Volvo EX90 here in Malaysia. Unveiled globally in 2022, the EX90 is essentially the fully-electric (EV) sibling of the XC90, with two all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain configurations globally.

The base version, called the Twin Motor, packs 408 hp and 770 Nm of torque. But if you want even more oomph, there’s the Twin Motor Performance variant, which boasts 517 hp and 910 Nm. With all that extra power, the Twin Motor Performance can hit 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and onwards to a limited top speed of 180 km/h.
Both versions utilise a 111 kWh battery (107 kWh usable), giving the Twin Motor a WLTP range of 600 km and the Twin Motor Performance a slightly shorter range of 590 km.
When it comes to charging, the EX90 supports DC fast charging up to 250 kW, so you can juice it up from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. AC charging is supported at 11 kW, which takes about 10 hours for a full charge.

As for the Volvo XC90, it’s finally getting a proper makeover after a decade-long production run. The facelift freshens up the exterior with a new front grille and headlights, while the back keeps the familiar taillight design but gets a new lighting pattern.
The biggest change for the Volvo XC90 facelift is inside. It now has a redesigned dashboard and a larger 11.2-inch portrait-style touchscreen for the infotainment system, powered by the next-gen Volvo Car UX and the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm.

The Volvo XC90 facelift in Malaysia is likely to soldier on with its tried-and-true plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, according to a press release by VCM. The PHEV powertrain in the XC90 consists of a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 310 hp and 400 Nm and an electric motor that delivers 145 hp and 390 Nm.
Combined, the powertrain delivers 455 hp and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds, all channelled through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
This setup is juiced by an 18.8 kWh battery pack, giving the XC90 facelift an estimated WLTP electric-only range of 70 km.
VCM isn’t providing much in terms of details for now, with the press release only stating that “both models will be made available for local purchase with a date to be announced via the brand’s website.”
We do know, however, that Malaysia is set to be one of the first Asia Pacific markets to receive the EX90, after Thailand. There, the Volvo EX90 is offered in two variants, priced from THB4.29 million (approx. RM564k). As for the Volvo XC90, the T8 Ultra AWD Plug-in-hybrid variant is priced at RM434,408 here in Malaysia.
