Video: The 2024 Mazda CX-5 isn’t new, but that’s why I like it

The Mazda CX-5 probably needs no introduction. It has been around in Malaysia since the first generation model’s launch back in 2012. Fast forward to today, the facelifted second-generation CX-5 arrived on our shores earlier this year, and since 2012, competition around the CX-5 has certainly become fiercer, to say the least. With that said, does the CX-5 still stand a chance in 2024? Check out our video review to find out!

Like before, the Mazda CX-5 facelift is locally assembled at the Inokom Assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah, and is offered in five variants. Prices for the SUV start from RM146,879 for the 2.0G Mid 2WD variant and top out at RM191,170 with the 2.5G High AWD variant.

On the outside, the Mazda CX-5 facelift in Malaysia now features a new grille, along with oblong-shaped LED headlights and rearlights. This facelift exercise introduced two new colours for the CX-5 facelift, namely Polymetal Gray and Platinum Quartz.

Depending on the variant chosen, the Mazda CX-5 facelift can be had with four powertrain options. This includes the 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated SkyActiv engine that makes 162 hp and 213 Nm, the 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated SkyActiv engine that provides 192 hp and 258 Nm, the 2.5-litre turbo SkyActiv engine that pushes out 228 hp and 420 Nm, and last but not least, the 2.2-litre SkyActiv turbodiesel engine with 188 hp and 450 Nm. All four engines are paired with the same 6-speed SkyActiv automatic transmission.
