Aston Martin Vanquish set for epic comeback with “fearsome” 835 hp V12

In what might be the world’s least cryptic teaser, Aston Martin has now essentially confirmed the return of its flagship Vanquish nameplate. And as if that’s still not enough to whet your appetite, here’s the kicker: it’ll be powered by a new-generation V12 engine.

Aston Martin still isn’t saying much on the new car yet, but we do know quite a bit about the engine. The company calls it a “complete redesign”, although it sounds more like a major update of its existing engine than an all-new, clean-slate design.

Changes here include the strengthened cylinder block and conrods, redesigned cylinder heads, reprofiled camshafts, new intake and exhaust ports, higher flowrate fuel injectors, and faster reduced inertia turbochargers.

All in, the new V12 engine is capable of delivering a whopping 835 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque – a massive increase over the previous 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12, even on its most potent configuration on the limited-run DBS 770 Ultimate.

Aston Martin says that they have refined and optimised “every stage of the internal combustion process” to achieve these figures. Aside from power gains, the new engine also boasts improved throttle response and overall efficiency.

“The V12 engine has long been a symbol of power and prestige, but it is also a statement of engineering passion and technical prowess,” said Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer, Roberto Fedeli. “With 835 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque this unparalleled engine represents nothing less than the dawn of a dazzling new V12 era for Aston Martin.”

The British supercar marque said that the new V12 engine will be handmade in limited quantities, and will only be featured on their “most exclusive and limited availability models” – the first of such will debut later in 2024.

They’re, of course, referring to the next-generation Aston Martin Vanquish. And how do we know that? “All will be vanquished,” the press release reads simply. Told you it’s obvious.
