Following the incident involving an Omoda 5 on Sunday, where weldings on the rear axle appeared to have broken off, Chery Malaysia has released further information following its investigation as a follow-up to its initial statement released yesterday.
The company revealed that 600 units of the Omoda 5 are also “potentially affected”. The owners will be contacted immediately, to have their cars sent to Chery service centres. The components will be replaced, not repaired, the company noted.
The company also assured that other Omoda 5 vehicles currently on the road are not affected by this matter. For peace of mind, non-affected owners can also bring their cars to Chery’s service centres for a thorough inspection.
The replacement work is expected to take around two hours to complete. A Chery spokesperson pointed out that the replacement works is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the 600 affected customers.
In a separate incident regarding the supposed brake failure a few weeks ago, Chery Malaysia said there is no issue with the car, and it has been cleared for further use. This follows after a thorough inspection both internally and by Puspakom.
