GWM Malaysia to launch 9 cars in 3 years, CKD to start in 2023

At the launch of the all-electric Ora Good Cat, Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia announced that it will be launching nine cars in the next three years. The company has also announced that it will begin local assembly (CKD) operations in 2023.

In a presentation by GWM President, Elliot Zhang, a slide highlighted “Car”, “SUV”, and “Pickup”, teasing the future models by the brand. Possible models that could be launched soon include the Haval H6, Haval Jolion, and the GWM Pao pickup truck.

The same slide also reads “To be xEV Leader in Malaysia”, which means most of, or all the upcoming GWM models will be electrified. “xEV” is an umbrella term for all electrified (MHEV, PHEV, etc.) and fully-electric vehicles.

As for GWM Malaysia’s CKD plans, EV assembly will take place, but not soon as more preparation will be needed for EV assembly. The company will likely assemble its SUVs and its pickup trucks first. Local assembly will take place in the company’s Gurun facility and will be run in partnership with Go Auto.
