On the outside, the Vios is now bigger, measuring 5mm longer, 10 mm wider, and 5mm taller than it used to be. The wheelbase is also now longer by 70 mm than its predecessor. Despite its size increase though, the Vios now weighs 110 kg lighter. The G variant weighs 1,035 kg while the E variant weighs 1,015 kg.

Standard features on the outside include a standard aero kit which includes a front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler. Also standard is a set of LED headlights with LED DRLs and a follow-me-home function. Differentiating the Vios E and G are the wheels, tyres, window belt trim, and the finishing of the grille. Graciously, Toyota has equipped the Vios with an RFID tag as standard. All that’s left to do by the customer is to activate the tag.

The G variant sits on 17-inch wheels and these are wrapped in Continental Premium Contact C tyres. The G variant, on the other hand, sits on a set of 16-inch wheels. Those wheels are wrapped in a set of Toyo Proxes CR1 tyres. Having tested the G variant, we can vouch that they are decently grippy.

Powering the 2023 Toyota Vios is a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine that makes 106 hp and 138 Nm. It is 1 hp and 2 Nm down from the previous generation, as the engine has been tuned for better fuel efficiency. In its range-topping G variant with 17-inch wheels, the Vios records 5.2 l/100km in terms of fuel consumption. Paired with the engine is a CVT with 7 virtual gears. you get paddle shifters in the G variant, but not for the E variant.

As for brakes, the G variant gets ventilated disc brakes in front and solid disc brakes at the back. The E variant gets ventilated disc brakes in front and drum brakes at the back.

Inside, the Vios comes with a 9-inch head unit that supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The unit also comes with a 360° view which makes parking a breeze. The G variant gets a full 7-inch digital instrument cluster while the E variant gets a 4.2-inch version. A standard item in the cabin is a front Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

The cabin of the 2023 Toyota Vios gets a 64-colour ambient lighting system for the G variant. However, this is only on the storage compartment in the centre console and the small pocket for the front passenger, also on the centre console. You get tilt & telescopic steering adjustment for the G variant but tilt adjustment only for the E variant.

In the second row, the Vios now no longer comes with folding rear seats. According to the engineers, this has shaved 10 kg from the overall weight of the car. There is also no centre armrest and the headroom is a little tight. Making a return in the Vios is the centre tunnel in the second row. Second-row passengers get a Type A and Type C USB socket to charge their mobile devices.
