The Omoda C4 (also known as the Omoda O4 or Omoda 4 in international markets) has officially made its regional debut in Southeast Asia at a premiere event at Indonesia’s Spike Airdome in Jakarta last night. Although the crossover first appeared as early as April last year, this is the first time it has been presented in right-hand drive (RHD) guise. More importantly, it also marks the global debut of the model’s fully battery-electric vehicle (BEV) variant.
For a quick refresher, the Omoda C4 is a B-segment subcompact crossover that shares its underpinnings with other Chery Group vehicles such as the Chery Tiggo Cross and the Jaecoo J5. Designed with a more gamer, techno-cyberpunk aesthetic to appeal to a younger, more vibrant audience — which explains its bold and aggressive looks.
The Omoda C4 features a single front-mounted electric motor producing 218 hp (160 kW) and 275 Nm, allowing for a 0-100 km /h sprint in 7.1 seconds. Providing juice to all that is a 65.05 kWh battery that enables a total range of 553 km under the NEDC test cycle. While charging specifics still remain under wraps, it was revealed that the car will support up to 119 kW DC fast charging, replenishing the battery from 20-80% in 22 minutes.
This setup is quite similar to the Jaecoo J5 EV that’s set for a local launch very soon. There, its front motor produces slightly less output at 211 hp (155 kW) and 288 Nm. it also carries a smaller 58.9 kWh LFP battery sourced from CATL, allowing for a range of 402 km under the WLTP test cycle.
Inside, its layout remains very similar to the J5, just as the ICE version seen in China earlier this year, but flipped for the RHD market. It features a 13.2-inch portrait-oriented centre screen paired with an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster, all powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chipset.
The company claims it’s the first model to feature its AI Smart Cockpit system within the user interface (UI). According to Omoda Jaecoo International Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shawn Xu, at the Chery International Business Summit earlier this year, he explained that the system is capable of responding to more natural, vague voice commands such as “show me the hottest nightclubs around me”, as well as assisting with navigation, music, and more.

Notable luxuries include a leather interior with striking red stitching, 50 W Qi wireless charging, and what Omoda Jaecoo calls the “Cyber Verse Full Panoramic Roof”. Fancy name aside, just know it’s a heavily tinted glass roof to keep our Southeast Asian sun at bay. The main differentiator between the ICE and EV versions, however, is the centre console. The EV loses the Lamborghini-style starter button found in the petrol model because, well, there’s no engine to fire up in the first place.
And since there’s no engine, this leaves space for an additional frunk (front trunk). Combined with the seats folded down, the company quotes a total storage capacity of 1,126 litres. Along with that, Omoda Jaecoo says the car is generously fitted with 38 versatile storage spaces
The Omoda C4 EV will come with 18 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Intelligent Avoidance System, Integrated Cruise Assist, and Traffic Jam Assist.

While the Omoda C4 is making its ASEAN debut as an EV in Indonesia, that’s not the only powertrain available for the model. When it first debuted in China, the crossover was also offered with a conventional petrol engine as well as the brand’s Super Hybrid System (SHS).
The ICE variant is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 149 hp and 235 Nm. That’s slightly more than what’s offered in the closely related Chery Tiggo Cross and Jaecoo J5, despite all three models sharing the same platform.

Those looking for something more electrified without going fully electric can opt for the SHS hybrid variant. Similar to the Tiggo Cross Hybrid, it pairs the same 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with a pair of electric motors integrated into a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Combined system output stands at 204 hp and 310 Nm, while Omoda claims a total driving range of up to 1,000 km.
Now, while Indonesia gets the EV first, that’s probably not the version most Malaysians will be keeping an eye on. The Omoda 4 it initially broke cover in China with two powertrain options: a pure internal combustion engine (ICE) version and a hybrid (HEV) SHS variant.
The ICE Omoda C4 is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 149 hp and 235 Nm. That’s slightly more than its platform siblings, the Chery Tiggo Cross and Jaecoo J5. There’s also the marque’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) variant, which pairs the same 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with a pair of electric motors integrated into a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Combined system output stands at 204 hp and 310 Nm, with a claimed total driving range of up to 1,000 km.
The Omoda C4 EV will make its first public debut at the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, happening on 29 July. But for us Malaysians, hold on tight too because the Omoda C4 has already been confirmed for our markets.
While the Omoda C4 will be sold exclusively as an EV in Indonesia, It’ll arrive on Malaysian shores sometime next year and will be offered with two powertrain options. But which two out of the three available? Stay tuned.
