Smart #3 debuts at Auto Shanghai 2023, fastback version of Smart #1

Smart has officially debuted its first-ever sports utility coupé, the Smart #3 at the Auto Shanghai on April 17, 2023. With this new model, Smart continues its original vision of finding the best solutions for future urban mobility.

The exterior design of the Smart #3 is essentially a sportier rendition of Mercedes-Benz’s global design team’s design philosophy, with state-of-the-art connectivity remaining as the guiding foundation. It features seamless, smooth lines and athletic curves that are depicted to enhance the car’s aerodynamic performance.

Slimmed-down CyberSparks LED headlights, a “shark nose” and an A-shape grill make up the front fascia of the Smart #3. At the side, the fastback profile, two-tone roof, curvature lines on the doors, as well as door-mounted side mirrors create a sporty and elegant silhouette. Additionally, the taillights with pixelated elements further support the premium feel.

Although the range of the Smart #3 has not been officially revealed, based on Smart’s video teaser video which claimed the car to have ‘extended range’ and ‘exceptional aerodynamic efficiency’, you can expect the Smart #3 to deliver more than the car it is based on, the Smart #1.

Smart Europe CEO, Dirk Adelmann quoted, “We are proud to finally present our first ever sports utility coupé, the all-new Smart #3 to the world. As an all-electric pioneer smart is committed to the uncompromising quality of experience and interactions.”

He added, “Our goal has always been to address the multifaceted and changing needs for mobility. Therefore, Smart will keep on expanding its product family to offer a variety of cars that optimally suit different customer groups and lifestyles.”

Moving inside, the sporty energy continues with circular-shaped air-cond vents that resemble turbine intakes. The dashboard flows upwards into a console that houses the central cockpit, with a 12.8-inch elevated central screen on top.

The interior provides an airy atmosphere thanks to the halo glass roof as well as the multi-coloured ambient lights. Smart also invested in making the Smart #3 a comfortable car to drive and ride in by giving the car a longer wheelbase and integrating sporty headrests into the seats. Entertainment-wise, Smart has equipped the #3’s infotainment system with a 13-speaker Beats® Soundsystem, which complements the Smart #3’s avant-garde cabin experience.

What’s more, customers are able to choose their Smart #3’s interior colours as well. Options available include the Photon Orange Metallic, Electric Blue Matte exterior as well as Vibrant Brown.

Closer to home, Smart #1 will be arriving in Malaysia in Q4 2023, and will be distributed by PRO-NET, which is Proton’s EV subsidiary.
