Toyota teases Malaysia GR line-up ahead of 17 Feb debut, Hilux and Corolla Cross GR Sport sighted

Ahead of what is about to be an exciting year for Toyota in Malaysia this year, the brand has teased a five-car line-up for its ‘GR’ models in a recent social media post. Last year, Toyota Malaysia has announced that the GR Corolla, all-new GR86, and manual Supra will be launched in Malaysia this year. In the social media post, it seems the Hilux GR Sport and Corolla Cross GR Sport will be joining the Malaysian GR party that is set to happen on February 17, 2023.

To recap from Toyota Malaysia’s announcement last year, we will be getting the GR Corolla, all-new GR86, and 6-speed manual Supra officially this year. Already in the GR lineup in Malaysia are the GR Yaris and the automatic GR Supra. Driving enthusiasts are in for a treat with a new GR Trio coming to our shores.

The GR Corolla is powered by a beefed-up GR Yaris-sourced G16E-GTS engine, and it makes 304 hp (metric) and 370 Nm. Power is sent to all wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. Ahead of Malaysia, Thailand has already welcomed this hot version of the Corolla.

With its predecessor already being a popular choice among car enthusiasts, the GR86 is now powered by Toyota’s FA24 engine that makes 235 hp (metric) and 250 Nm. All power is sent to the rear wheels via either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Its cousin, the all-new Subaru BRZ has already landed on our shores.

Lastly among the new pure GR trio is the 6-speed manual Toyota Supra which made its global debut in April 2022. Those who have always been complaining about the lack of a manual Supra are finally getting what they asked for. Like its automatic counterpart, the 6-speed manual Supra still runs the 3.0-litre turbo engine that makes 387 hp (metric) and 500 Nm.
