Toyota Hilux GR Sport debuts in Australia – most powerful version yet with 224 hp and 550 Nm

Toyota has launched the new Hilux GR Sport in Australia but unlike ones we’ve seen debut in Thailand and Europe, this one appears to be the most powerful version yet.

The new GR Sport Hilux produces 224 hp and 550 Nm of torque as a result of revised turbochargers and fuel injection – making it the most powerful diesel Hilux ever offered by Toyota in Australia. Power comes from a 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine mated to an automatic gearbox. Both the Thailand and European models produces only 204 hp and 500 Nm.

The Australian GR Sport Hilux also gets wider tracks – extended by 140 mm at the front and 155 mm at the rear – along with redesigned wishbones and a reinforced front axle. It’s also fitted with monotube shock absorbers with higher damping force and heat-dissipation capacity, along with stiffer coil springs for increased stability and reduced body roll.

The GR Sport Hilux’s exterior body parts have been sculpted in the wind tunnel for aerodynamic efficiency; complemented with 17-inch wheels.

Inside, the monochromatic black theme is contrasted with bright sports pedals and red seatbelts. GR branding can be seen on the steering wheel, headrests and red brake calipers. The new Hilux GR Sport will be launched in Australia in the second half of 2023.
