New 10-seater Hyundai Staria launched in Malaysia – from RM179,888

If you’re in the market for a large people carrier, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has just launched the new 10-seater Hyundai Staria in Malaysia. Available in three variants (Lite, Plus, and Max), the prices of the 10-seater Hyundai Staria start at RM179,888.

Yes, the 10-seater Hyundai Staria actually has 11 seats including the middle bench seat on the first row. However, since it doesn’t have a proper three-point seat belt, it can’t be considered an official 11th seat in Malaysia. With more people-carrying capacity, the 10-seater Hyundai Staria joins the seven-seater Staria Premium that was launched in October last year.

EXTERIOR

The futuristic look of the Hyundai Staria is hard to miss. It is also a very large vehicle, measuring longer, wider, and taller than the Kia Carnival. The Staria measures 5,253mm, 1,997 mm, and 1,990 mm in terms of length, width, and height. The Kia Carnival measures 5,155 mm, 1,995 mm, and 1,775 mm in the same dimensions.

Standard exterior equipment on the 10-seater Hyundai Staria “Lite” are:

  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • LED headlights
  • Bulb taillights
  • Rear bulb fog lights
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Manual sliding doors

The “Plus” variant adds on:

  • LED Taillights
  • Rear LED Foglights
  • Power sliding doors
  • Parametric Pixel LED taillights

The “Max” version adds on:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels

Remaining exclusive to the seven-seater version Hyundai Staria Premium is the following exterior features:

  • Full LED headlamps (Premium-exclusive)
  • Brass trim options
  • 1st-row double-laminated soundproof glass
  • Touch-type outside door handle (1st row)

PERFORMANCE

Like the seven-seater Hyundai Staria Premium, the 10-seater is powered by the same 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All 177 hp and 431 Nm are sent to the front wheels and the Hyundai Staria does 0-100 km/h in 12.4 seconds. Although the Staria is offered with a 3.5-litre V6 petroleum gasoline engine in other markets, all four versions in Malaysia are sticking to the 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine.

INTERIOR

With more seats in the cabin, the 10-seater Staria has a 2-3-2-3 seat arrangement (3-3-2-3 if you consider it an 11-seater). This means there are no plush second-row seats from the seven-seater version. Even in its most basic form, the “Lite” variant, the Staria still gets a an eight-inch touchscreen unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 10-seater Staria also uses a basic gear lever instead of the shift-by-wire buttons in the seven-seater Staria Premium.
